THEATRES IN GRAN VÍA

The Gran Vía is Madrid’s main artery, and the Praktik Metropol is located at its nerve centre, the area known as Madrid’s Broadway. Within less than 15 minutes’ walk from the hotel in all directions you’ll find the city’s best theatres and concert halls, and the staff members at the Hotel Praktik Metropol’s reception desk can reserve tickets for musicals, plays and concerts in Madrid.

The most distinguished theatre, and surely the most famous one, is the Teatro Lope de Vega, which presents the most internationally important musicals. A theatre that mustn’t be overlooked is the Teatro Nuevo Alcalá, only 10 minutes from the hotel along pedestrian Montera street. The Nuevo Alcalá stages musicals known worldwide, such as Annie and Peter Pan.

And even closer—a two-minute walk from the Hotel Praktik Metropol is the Teatro Príncipe Gran Vía, with musicals like The Wizard of Oz. A bit further on is the Teatro Häagen-Dazs, featuring dance and flamenco shows. Then there are the Teatro Compac Gran Vía and the Pequeño Compac Gran Vía, with an excellent offering of stand-up comedy nearly every day of the week and a multitude of other shows, all very near your hotel in the Madrid city centre!

MUSEUMS IN MADRID

Very close to the Hotel Praktik Metropol —only 15 minutes on foot through charming area streets—is the Prado museum, unquestionably Spain’s most important museum. It’s the 9th most visited museum in the world because of its excellent collection. Its space limitations reduce the number of works shown to the 900 best among the 8,000 owned by the Prado, which include paintings by Velázquez, Goya, Titian, Rubens, El Greco, Raphael and Hieronymus Bosch.

The next visit that can be made from the hotel is a 10-minute walk away: the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum, an adapted urban palace housing works that range from the Gothic period to pop art and the best contemporary works of the 1980s.

Closing the triangle of Spain’s best museums, all of which are very near the Hotel Praktik Metropol, is the Reina Sofia museum, the 15th most visited museum in the world, specializing in the art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
